It is so dull and also kind of toxic, though I suppose that's kind of the point. All the episodes in here were solid, but only the first one is a favorite.Īlso, I take back everything I said about Love Egoist. This volume doesn't stand out from the other volumes because a quarter of it was devoted to Love Egoist which has nothing to do with Ouran. Plus I think Mori's younger brother is kind of annoying, though he annoyed me less than the last time I read this. I like Chika and I thought there were some hilarious scenes (particularly the scenes about Hunny being an alien) but I always feel really bad for Chika which takes away some of my enjoyment. The first episode in the volume has always been one of my favorites in both the manga and the anime, but I wasn't as big a fan of the next one. Not as good as the last volume, but I still really loved it.

For Papa's bedtime stories, Stein (Leaves) shifts styles, inking each scene in spindly ink when the chicken interrupts, she bursts onto the sepia pages in full color. THE END!" Stein's spreads are thickly and energetically worked, the colors intense, and the lighting and shadows dramatic. A little red chicken, lying in bed in her pajamas, can't help slamming on the brakes when Papa's read-aloud stories get too tense: "Out jumped a little red chicken," she cuts in as Papa reads Hansel and Gretel, "and she said, DON'T GO IN! SHE'S A WITCH!' So Hansel and Gretel didn't. Stein's earlier books did not foretell an ability to pull off broad comedy, but this father-and-daughter bedtime banter is all the better for being a surprise. But Atkinson isn’t being lazy, not in the least: Her protagonist’s encounter with der Führer is just one of several possible futures. If you could travel back in time and kill Hitler, would you? Of course you would.Ītkinson’s (Started Early, Took My Dog, 2011, etc.) latest opens with that conceit, a hoary what-if of college dorm discussions and, for that matter, of other published yarns (including one, mutatis mutandis, by no less an eminence than George Steiner). Today’s match-ups include England v Belgium, Panama v Tunisia, Japan v Poland, and Senegal v Colombia.Įngland: Life after life by Kate Atkinson Show your support for your favorite team by reading books from and about their country!
